Radhost mountain Hike - Vylet na Radhost

The second day in Radhost we made a trip to the Radhost Mountain (3500 feet above sea level). The bus took us all the way to Pustevny and from there we hiked for about an hour to the top. It was cold, cloudy, occasionally with rain and hail showers. There were some remnants of snow on the side of the trail and no leaves on the short bushes. We passed by the large granit statue of the god of thunder Radegast with a headrest of spikes and body of a huge, muscular smith. Radegast is called the second most popular beer in the Czech Republic which is also quite well known in the USA probably because it's cheaper than overpriced Pilsner Urquell.

The summit of Radhost is round, without trees. There is a statue of Cyril and Method, large, brown shingled chapel and a tall TV tower. The views were obscured by clouds but occasionally we could see Roznov in the north and Frenstat in the south.

Since it was cold and windy we hadn't stayed long and went down guided by red tourist markers painted on the rocks and trees. It was only six miles to Roznov first through spruce, then beach and maple forests. The more we descended the more green the trees became. Almost at the bottom we had some sunshine and went through meadows with blooming flowers and wild cherry trees.

In the suburbs of Roznov we rewarded ourselves by stopping at the Eroplan Restaurant. The story tells, that at the end of the war a fighter plane was shot down and crashed into this area. On the site they built a restaurant and hotel and put a much older upper-winged plane model in front of it. It's made of steel, has a pilot with a scarf around the neck and rotating propeller driven by a stream of water.

The restaurant's interior is furnished with modern but simple style wood furniture. The tables are covered with white linen cloths and vases with fresh flowers. The food and service were excellent. After a hike and two Pilsners everything tastes great.

Prosli jsme kolem velke zulove sochy boha Radegasta, boha hromu a blesku, ktery ma celenku se spicemi a svalnate kovarske telo. Druhe nejoblibenejsi pivo v Cechach se take jmenuje Radegast.

Stoly s lnenymi ubrusy maji jednoduche, drevene hnede zidle. Obsluha i jidlo byly vyborne. Po vylete a dvou plzenskych chutna kazde jidlo bajecne.
