Background: In July 2008 Sally Mitchell and her brother Mike Hayes (i.e. me...) joined forces to create a photography exhibition here in Cornwall, UK, in aid of the Julio Otoni Community Project in Rio. Earlier this year Sal gave many weeks of her time to work directly with the children in the Julio Otoni favela and during her time there developed a fantastic rapport with the children and the project coordinator. During this same period I was cycling at the other end of the South American continent... through Colombia and Ecuador, camera in hand. On our return it made sense to combine our photography and raise awareness of the project. Sal's photography is focused purely on her time working in the community while mine is a small selection of favourites from my travels around the world... mostly by bicycle.
In response to many requests this website is intended as a means for people unable to attend the exhibition in person to view the displayed photographs, provide links to background information about the Julio Otoni Community Project and, if they so wish, request prints or make donations - all proceeds of which will go directly to the project coordinator in Rio.

News: The exhibition opened on July 4th-8th 2008 in the 'Barn' addendum to Lobbs Farmshop at Heligan Gardens in Cornwall. At present we are looking for another venue for a longer term, higher profile exhibition. To date almost £1000 have been raised. Stay tuned to this page for news about further venues and updates to the funds raised.
