December 2006: Like a Phoenix from the ashes.... ! Welcome to my reincarnated portfolio site. Neglected for the last 12 months it was time that mikesimagination.net received a complete makeover with a fresh new look and some fresh content. So, please take a look around, tell me if you like (or don't like) what you see and in the meantime I hope you enjoy exploring! I've noted that my inclusion of "Cornwall" in my places gallery has caused some amusement locally, I can only say that in my opinion Cornwall is easily the equal of many global destinations, and when I lived in Canada was, to many, a fairytale land of stunning coastlines, ancient villages, legends and superstition.... it's definitely a bit weird at times!
who is Mike?: An engineer by profession, photography is my escape from the corporate world. I tend to follow an unstudied, unplanned approach - go with the flow and see what happens, there's a surprise on every roll of film. People often view my work and ask if I'm a professional (flattery gets you everywhere...), of course the answer is no - I prefer to think of myself as a full-time "unprofessional" with no conscious regard for rules or judgements on what is or is not a great photograph. My other passion is cycling, mostly road racing but to be honest it doesn't really matter what the flavour is, it's all good in my book. Much of the time when I travel I do so by bike it's the perfect mode of transport for bringing me closer to the people and lands of a given destination. I usually try and squeeze in a couple of adventures each year. For the record I work mostly in colour with 35mm Leica rangefinders, I find the these suit the spontaneity (or possibly just laziness?) that has developed in my pictures. Mike Hayes, 2006
