must be Marathon time again....
...I used to go running when living in
Montreal, a quick 30 minute flat-out sprint around the Old Port of a morning
before work... it was more of a means to an end though....
Every year, around now, while out riding I start
to see ever increasing numbers of people out running... it's quite obvious from
the pained expressions, awkward gaits and wobbling waistlines that the vast
majority of them are not regular runners... and are hating every footstep. It
means only one thing... must be the London Marathon soon! All credit to them
thought for actually getting out and doing something in this increasingly
sofa-oriented society! I do wonder though how many actually keep it up, once
marathon weekend is out of the way all of a sudden the roads are quiet once
again. Reckon they'd all be better off on bicycles.... Run a marathon... me?
Never....
I used to go running when
living in Montreal, a quick 30 minute flat-out sprint around the Old Port of a
morning before work... it was more of a means to an end though, I always hated
pounding the pavements. Payback came at the weekends when I escaped to the
mountains for long distance hikes and, if the adrenalin was really flowing, epic
off-road mountain runs of 30-40km across the peaks and through the forests of
the Adirondack and White Mountains just a couple of hours south of Montreal
across the border... Sadly the frequency of those trips dropped to almost zero
after that particular September day when the US became increasingly
xenophobic..... the hassle at the border was simply not worth the effort....
especially as a Brit rather than a 'native'..... The average border guard in the
US ain't too bright, I guess if they were they'd all be in the police force
instead.......
