two-wheeled therapy....
I've got my carbon 'wonder bike' and a
titanium piece of rolling craftsmanship but my vintage fixie is the one for
attracting envious glances from all and sundry... not that I like the attention
or anything ;o) As a cure for depression, stress, tiredness and general
grouchiness it can't be beat...
I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week but the weather has been
stunning so I've been enjoying my own private form of 'therapy', namely cruising
along sun-dappled lanes in the warm spring air astride my vintage fixie...
polished chrome and alloy sparkling in the hazy sunshine and with nothing but
the gentle whisper of tyres on asphalt to disturb the peace. To complete the
experience I pull out my very groovy, black retro-styled cycling jersey which
together with black bibknicks, funky Pearl Izumi carbon shoes and Rudy Project
sunnies are about as close to 'cool' as it's possible to get in cycling kit...
(lets face it, most of the time you look a prick...). The vintage bike part is
essential, aside from the magic carpet ride of skinny steel tubes and sparkle of
highly polished metal there's the all-important discussion point at the
obligatory cafe stop. I've got my carbon 'wonder bike' and a titanium piece of
rolling craftsmanship but my vintage fixie is the one for attracting envious
glances from all and sundry... not that I like the attention or anything ;o) As
a cure for depression, stress, tiredness and general grouchiness it can't be
beat... shame groovy bikes are not available on the
NHS....This morning's 'prescription' was a
steady spin of just 30 miles through the springtime countryside to a most
excellent cafe where it's possible to catch up with the other Wednesday morning
regulars (also on bikes). I think I was so relaxed on arrival I was half-asleep
on my bike, it took the smell of fresh coffee and toasting teacakes to snap me
out of my zen-like state... (apologies for my use of the word 'zen', a term
massively over-and- inappropriately used term to my mind... but in this case
it's accurate...). Today was my last Wednesday chill-session, next week it's
back to the fun-factory and back to being a responsible member of the employed
community... bah! Wonder how long I'll
last.....Oh yes, my chickpea, Marmite
and fried banana pancake below garnered some comment... not all of it
favourable... so for all you doubters... you haven't lived 'till you've tried
it... I had another one today for lunch, it's that good. I can but sympathise
for the non-Marmite eaters among my readership,
hehehe!p.s I just received a tax demand
from Revenue Quebec... a mere $57,000. Ooops!
