oh dear... and a new set of hoops

I really feel for folk who make themselves unhappy by getting bitter and twisted about what other people think....
other stuff... well my race bike has some new hoops to roll on, most importantly they look fab!

Oh dear, it seems my opinions on the aesthetics of Sugino kit (see below) didn't go down well with a certain mister Anonymous, the poor soul. I really feel for folk who make themselves unhappy by getting bitter and twisted about what other people think. Never mind, hope he gets over it soon. Apparently I should have bought an Italian frame too..... :o)
The funny thing is though.... having looked at some lovely keirin bikes belonging to others.... I'm leaning towards an 'appropriate' build... it's going to delay things a little (and cost a little, well, a lot, more) but it will be fun.... I'll need to import some rims from Japan and I have to admit... the more I look at Sugino's top of the line "Grand Mighty" track crank in it's champagne anodized finish the more I think I may well buy one... it's a silly name though!

So what else is new... not an awful lot really. I was out riding yesterday over a 'benchmark' 90km loop I use and it seems a winter of fixed-gear-only riding has clearly increased my power over previous winters when I was mixing it with geared and singlespeed riding. I'm largely back on my geared race bike now to turn that power into out and out speed, my legs just need a little fine tuning at high power high cadence work and I'll be flying.... well, that's the plan anyway.

My race bike has some new hoops to roll on too. Last year it was wearing a set of silly-light (1050 grams/pair) carbon Zipp Z3/Tune wheels... they were fantastically light wheels and accelerations felt phenomenal... but the lack of inertia bothered me on the roads round here where the climbs are short and sharp and the bends tight... pause pedalling and I could feel the bike slow instantly... so I bit the bullet and added a full half-kilo in weight (!) to my bike (but it still weighs only 6kg) and fitted a set of all carbon Mavic Cosmic Carbone Pro wheels. They are heavier but are much more aero than the Zipps, they feel more robust too - the construction quality is very confidence inspiring. The extra rotational inertia means they roll fantastically well, the road feel is lovely. Even though they're heavier they will be faster overall I think. If I'm completely honest though... the most important thing... they just look fab, pic attached! So, that's me all set for the big events this summer :o) All I need now is for my eczema to go away and I'll be laughing.
