I have two sets of these bars, one on my winter road bike and one on my cyclocross bike... mainly becuase they're so comfortable for long rides or for a more upright position when on the tops to a conventional drop bar. The proper Nitto designation is Mod-177AA, they're originally a Rivendell design, different from a regular road bar in that the tops of the bars sweep gently backwards which makes them just a little bit more relaxed for riding on the tops. Other than that little twist the shape is pretty normal - a drop of medium depth and quite wide.. they're not available in super narrow sizes but in a size 2cm wider than I'd normally ride they're lovely, and for cyclocross you get just a little bit extra leverage. It'sa good job they're a darn' sight stiffer than the name would suggest, they're plenty stiff enough for accurate control offroad but not so brutally stiff as to hurt when the surface is rough. They look pretty classy too in the less-seen-these-days silver finish with a nicely engraved collar. For the quality these are a bargain I reckon, just £23 from Hubjub. I haven't mentioned the weight of them... I have no idea what they weigh but I don't care and neither should you... for the intended use they're brilliant as it is! Pic below is of a set on my winter road bike, you can see the sweepback clearly. Apologies for the scabby carpet, I'm tiling this bit of floor come spring to make it more wet-and-muddy-bike friendly ;o) |
