These are possibly the oddest looking "conventional" drop bar you'll ever see... I fitted one to my Merlin 12 months ago and I'm pretty happy so I'll share my thoughts. My Merlin is my "big distance" bike, the one I drag out when the rides go past the 100 mile mark (I do short rides on it too....!) and I like a shallow drop bar, maybe because I'm short in the upper body for my height. This bar has the shallowest drop I've come across yet, as a result long alpine descents in the drops are comfortable yet still aero (n.b, I keep my body flexible so my saddle/bar height diff of 11cm is already quite large), I can spend more time in the drops on those long events when I'm not hammering eyeballs-out. The rear end of the drop section is extended rearwards with a raised profile which effectively gives a further hand position over regular bars, I really like this - it's quite a relaxed position as your body isn't so stretched out but still very aero. Riding on the hoods is excellent too, the shaping of the bar at the top of the bend falls beautifully into the palm of my hand when riding on the hoods. The top of the bar is slightly flattened, personally I don't really notice any difference in feel over a regular round bar... but it looks nice and doesn't detract from the bar at all.

The previous set of bars I had on the Merlin were the very light alloy bars from ITM - the THE (I always have trouble saying that...) - lighter than these but just too flexy. The BioMorphe is carbon and stiff enough to really allow the handling of the bike to shine through. Descending hairpins at speed is a whole lot more fun now. It's not the lightest bar out there, but that's not the point of it. I haven't weighed mine because a few grams here or there makes little difference to me on this bike. 3TTT don't quote a weight on their website but heck, it's going to be around 230grams I imagine... if it's that important to you then maybe shave your head or something instead.

If I do have a critiscm it's that it's not a good bar for sprinting in the drops, the from of the bar is far too 'square' as it bends from the tops round towards the lever position - in the drops, sprinting out of the saddle it will foul your forearms...

It's also available in an oversize version, and full details of the dimensions etc are on 3TTT's site, right here...

Top stuff!
