This seemed like a good idea at the time... I picked up the frame, fork, dura ace cranks as part of an incredibly 'bargainous' ex-demo deal and built the bike using mostly secondhand or clearance parts, the Rohloff hub was new however. I wanted to put together a mountain bike for winter that could do double duty as a low maintainence commuter, tourer and general all-round bike. Basically it all worked as well as you'd expect but I think being a bot of a roadie-perfectionist (and an engineer by profession) I could never get comfortable with the somewhar 'woolly' rohloff shifting, the noisy gears (even after a lot of use) and the concentration of the weight at the back of the bike..... so I sold it. In the end it cost me nothing becuase I'd paid so little to begin with but looking back now I should have just sold the Rohloff and kept the rest of the bike as a singlespeed. Ah well, c'est la vie.....!
