My Condor had a bit of a makeover this spring as I morphed it into my main timetrial machine. To see it in it's original configuration as my summer commuter and general 'nice fixie' then click here. As a TT bike it's turned out to be superb. The frame is stiff enough to withstand a hard starting effort without much flex while the steel tubes have just enough compliance to keep it comfy in a long race. The metamorphosis was gradual as I wasn't sure how successful a fixed gear machine would be on Cornwall and Devon's generally hilly courses... as it turned out it seems to suit my style of riding very while so with a few waves of the Magic Wand (otherwise known as my Mastercard) and some lucky second hand finds (the Easton fork in particular) the transformation into full-on TT weapon was complete. The highlight of the build in my opinion is the custom rear track wheel. A HED 90mm deep carbon rim built onto a custom Royce Titanium track hub, drilled and slotted for 24 bladed spokes. The front wheel is a stock HED, but that's pretty bling too with it's titanium spokes. The pair of deep rims have a terrific feel on the road and sound fantastic as the hollow sections reverberate on the asphalt. Bike as shown weighs just 7.8kg, light for a TT machine. |
