Mike Kent's Synthesizers Page

My main personal interests are in music. I come from a musical family. I studied trumpet seriously from the time I was 7 years old through to University. I taught myself to play keyboards. My first synthesizer was a Roland SH-1000 in 1977; I've been hooked on synthesizers ever since.

I usually have a recent model Roland synth, currently a Fantom-Xa. My main instruments are the XP-50 and EVI. I perform live regularly, play regularly at my church, and do a little recording at home. I like all types of synthesizers, from the most modern and capable instruments to the older, analog synthesizers. I wouldn't want to be without a great digital synth like the XP-50. My VK-8 is a fantastic organ that gets a lot of use. I appreciate many of the older instruments for their unique musical characteristics. The Jupiter-8 in particular was almost perfectly designed for me. I have a number of older analog synthesizers. My background in synthesizer and trumpet come together in a wind controller. My EVI Electronic Valve Instrument is a central instrument for me. The EVI is so expressive and natural to play.

My current setup includes:

I am fortunate to work for Roland. I have been a fan of Roland products since my first synthesizer, the Roland SH-1000. This was also Roland's first synthesizer, introduced in 1973. I am privileged to work for a great company that is a leader in areas so close to my own interests. I have worked for Roland in several positions since 1984. Currently I am Manager of Technical Relations.
