apple computer's intel macs and
codeweaver's crossover mac program
well, if you are reading this, more than likely you are already familiar with the words codeweavers and crossover, and that codeweavers' crossover allows one to natively run windows programs on an apple computer or in linux. no emulation needed and no smoke and mirrors virtualization employed. what codeweavers has done is pretty cool, really.
and just so you know, codeweavers' crossover is an intel only apple program. it will not run or work on any apple ppc computer.
what follows below, are pc window programs that work rather well on my 24 inch intel iMac computer. as you can probably guess, i much prefer smaller "single use" freeware programs to large bloated "do everything" type programs.
the other nice feature of these smaller freeware programs is that they do not necessarily come with installers. or... once you install them on a windows computer, you can simply copy and paste their "program files" folder and then run that particular program from anywhere.
what this means to me is that i can have a folder on my desktop called anything that i like, for instance, "codeweaver" or "codeweavers crossover" or "my windows programs" or "anything that i like", and i can then copy and paste these programs into that folder and run these progams from inside of that folder, from my desktop. or... if i get tired of that, i could then move that "anything that i like" folder into the "my documents" folder and run all of these windows programs from this new location. or... i could move them to an external hardrive and run them from there, or a usb flash thumbdrive, or... you get the idea.
with codeweavers' crossover and windows programs, you just have to try each one out and see if it works. if there is no joy when you try to run your windows program, hold candle light vigils and pray that the next release magically fixes the error. if you experience success and the program works, have a little celebration, treat yourself to dinner at a restaurant, and give thanks to the programming gods at codeweavers.
[[ or, i suppose, you could put up lots of links like this, and tell everyone to go buy their program. ]] http://www.codeweavers.com/ dude! crossover totally rocks! you gotta buy it man! you know, it weirded me out too, man, at first, you know, running windows programs on my outrageously almighty iMac. but you know what, i got a zen moment, took some slow deep breathes, and i'm cool with it now. and bloody 'eh, now that i've been using crossover mac for a while, it's pretty absolutely freakin' amazing. you just got to try it out man, really. dude, it'll change your life, man. it changed my life man, look, i'm trying to use punctuation now and before i was like totally disdainful of punctuation as some master slave relationship with big brother trying to impose order in my righteous life. and i am so freakin' inspired that i will work on that grammar thing next. oh yeah... buy codeweavers crossover :).
anyway, these are the window programs i like and use on my intel apple iMac and crossover mac. and i would be willing to bet that they also work with the linux version of crossover.

Tuesday, July 3, 2007 i'm stating this for the record here. i have a 24inch iMac, 2GHz intel core2duo processor, with 2GB RAM. I currently have osX 10.4.10 and i am using codeweaver's crossover v6.1.0 and all of these windows programs run on my computer configuration.
