Last Night's Dream

Last night, I dreamt of you

The brilliance of the morning bringing back

The memories of time, the stinging pain

The waking to the reality of our lives

And the greying of the fog on the night's eye

The forgotten never goes in the night

It returns and carries the pain

Of why I dreamed of you

The auburn of your hair and

The smell of your perfume

The memories

They never seem to collect

The dust on the old teddy bear

Resigned to its hidden corner

Or the feelings of touching you

Who Do I Write For

And sometimes they ask

Who do you write for?

And I try to respond

And I get embarrassed

Because it is all too personal

I don't know why I share

I guess to get over the fear

Of writing for you

Touching your heart

Or making you think

I write for the poet

He's hidden in my soul

I write for the muse

Residing in my mind

Trying to show my love

When I write

I do it for those I love

I do it for those I care about

I do it for the little things in the world

And I do it for myself, but mostly, I do it for you

The picture is one I took during a walk in Findley State Park with my wife. I imported it into Photoshop and applied the Paint Daubs filter and then used a Diffused Glow to reassert the details of the image.

Second Chances

That diamond is clouded over

Where once it shone as the daylight,

My days keep passing faster,

Into the dark of night...

The whispers of others say,

"Someday everything in time

Finds it's way home again,"

But I'm so tired of crying...

There have been second chances

Please don't ask me any more

There won't be any answer

Because I can't be here any more...

This things we had together

May still be in their place

But all of this is much too hard,

Too hard to face,

There'll be no more second chances...

The moonlit hours we spent

And the walking on the beach,

Standing in the trees

And gazing to the stars,

I swear at one time

They were in our reach...

But time... it passed by,

And the minutes... they ran too fast.

Like you they were gone...

Into my past....

The Pieces

As I sit on the floor,

Picking up the little pieces,

Of what is left of me,

Nearly nothing.

As I cry,

It seems I cannot fit them together,

There is no way to mend what is done,

The loss is my heart.

Why do you let this happen?

Are you listening to yourself?

There was a time of happiness.

There was a time when there was an us.

I hate that you feel like this.

And I can't understand....

Is it really possible that I am an embarrassment?

If you used to love all that I was.

The feelings have gone,

Along with the love,

Everything has been said,

But nothing is heard.

I hate this,

This double life being led,

My being nothing,

Expected to wait for an end.

Why do I envy him?

Am I to wait in the darkness forever?

If it is all over,

Then why do you drag me back in....

If I am just worthless then let me be done,

Just leave me alone,

And let me pull myself up....

A Prayer for Thanksgiving

Heavenly Father, while I have food, never let me forget the hungry;

While I work, do not let me forget the unemployed;

While I rest my head at home, let me remember those who have no place;

When there is no pain, let me keep top of mind those who suffer,

And in your wisdom, keep me passionate in my convictions; let me never overlook the less fortunate, and let me never be too busy to help;

Whether in thought and action, those who truly need all we take for granted.

My Wife

My confidant, my hero.

My best friend,

Any you are so beautiful.

The words of my beating heart,

Say so much more than they need.

You alone are the reason it beats;

With the intensity of my love.

My little queen,

Beyond perfection in all you are.

Eyes of sparkling diamonds,

Shining upon me.

When you kiss my lips,

You touch my soul.

A touch that burns

You upon me

If I were able I would make your world without darkness.

So all could see it is you with a hold on me always.

Even if our path becomes shattered and torn,

I will replace every tiny piece.

I will stand by you until the end of days,

So long as I have you, I can rule the world.

I wish for nothing to ever hurt you;

Because my only weakness are tears in your eyes.

And for all time,

You saying the words 'I do' will shine.

Together in love for eternity,

Forever, you are my wife.

Her Kiss

Though I have kissed her

A thousand times before

Making it millions

Would satisfy me more

I think at times she smiles

Even when she knows its from my heart

She knows that the kisses will be endless

Its been that way from the start

In that softness of each touch

My kiss is really a call for more

What more can I desire

When each is nothing like before

Its for every embrace

In her warmth I hear no sound

And I always feel this way

Even when she is not around

Though the distance is no problem

Nothing to cause pain

Its hard to wait for her kiss to come

Because my heart calls for her again and again

I always felt

You were the one

I'd be with all my life

We met, we loved

We lived together

Then you became my wife

We shared some great times

Good and bad

We laughed when happy

Cried when sad

As time went on

Our hearts did lift

When we were blessed

With god's great gifts

Our children, Jeff and Gabby too

Brought a wealth of joy

We never knew

That's when life got in the way

The stress of work

Not enough play

Others always in the way

We carried on a futile quest

Chasing dreams and happiness

Trying hard to do our best

We ended up with so much less

It's not that easy

As we now know

It never was, right from the start

One thing we learned, as we did go

Is happiness

Only comes from the heart

And I would much rather be with you

Than to ever part

There are times it seems

When the loneliness

Reigns

When I feel so alone

For no reason at all

Chilled to the bone

My fears come out

I can’t do anything

Inside I shout

I used to be so strong

Willful and bold

Maybe that was wrong

Because time and pain

Now run circles in my mind

When will I be me again

I can’t depend on what is said

I’ve lost that

The hurt made it dead

My days are afoul

I wonder if there ever will be

A time when there is again a light in my soul

And will you be there for that day

When I again become me

And life will be all you say

And told you it would be okay

We talked about a game

And held hands in the mall

We fixed the broken sink

And carried groceries up the stairs

We made your mother dinner

And got lost in the computer

That was long ago and far away

Time has made things so

Different

Lost with memories and dreams

You wander through life

Your way is your way

And we are no longer as close

As I wish we could be

I don’t know what happened

I wonder if you see

Time has made you into you

And me into me

I miss you so much

The little boy who was my buddy

Your spirit so kind

Your heart so good

Your growing to fast

Faster than I ever thought

And away are the days

Our time seems so lost

I know one day

There will be questions arise

A Girl

I once saw a girl with beautiful brown eyes,

When I first saw her heart almost stopped beating,

I couldn’t wait for our second meeting.

I couldn’t think of anything other than her unforgettable face ~ always on my mind,

I wonder why my heart was so weak...

To me her body was like watching the explosion of a million stars,

When I was alone my mind would just drift to a world all hers.

I couldn’t breath, I couldn’t think, I couldn’t see... anything but her.

And all I wondered was what could be

Words were too small to show all I felt for this girl

As her smell drifted from the room

And at times her little frame scared me more than the darkest dream

But without her I would have rather been in that nightmare

The years have passed and those brown eyes are the last thing

I want to see before sleep each night

Her beauty more now than it ever was

And all that I ever wanted is mine to see

My world within her world and she always within my dreams.
