Audio: O.S.T. (Qlipothic, Isolate, Phthalo)
Seimlste-electronic sound textures by O.S.T.'s Chris Douglas'peers deep inside the path emotion takes in the body, in the spirit, and reveals it in its archetypal form, as sound effecting human senses on linear-time and intuitive planes. By Douglas' design, Seimlste functions in sound parameters lying outside established electronic and dance music paradigms-the emasculated noisepunk of laptop glitch, the cleanroom-stale micro patterns of tech-house and minimal techno, the banal gyrating treacle of deep house and trance-to uncover the uncomfortable, the confrontation. Like the raw ores and minerals they imply, the two-letter track titles on Seimlste render concepts like temptation, sadness, and angst outside the trappings of bloated, second-order language constructions.
Visual: Siren aka Amy Hoffman
Amy Hoffman (Siren) is a multimedia sculpture and visual performer. Initially trained as a metalsmith, her current focus is the use of surveillance technology and machine control to create an interactive environments triggered by human presence.Motivated conceptually by the equation of certain technology with absolute power, her most recent work focuses on the use of surveillance and illusions of public freedom. Media is not only a tool for expression but also one of control. By divorcing certain technology from their initial purpose of monitoring and destruction, Amy attempts to remind those who interact with her films and installations just how mediated their environments truly are, with the philosophy that raising awareness is the first integral step to change. As a visual performer, she attempts to bring a subversive consciousness to unsuspecting audiences quoting from history, current media, and military technology. Amy has performed and exhibited both alone and collaboratively under various names including her own. |
