Audio: Octavius (Just One Entertainment)
Octavius is both the band name and a pseudonym for all of William Marshall's work in music. Their sound has been compared to Joy Division, Tricky, Merzbow, Massive Attack, Scorn, Meat Beat Manifesto, Coil, The Stooges and Slowdive in such respectable publications as URB, XLR8R, Grooves, The Wire, SF Bay Guardian, BAM, and Muzik. They use any piece of equipment they can get their hands on to accomplish their ideas. There is no "scene" allegiance. There are no self-imposed boundaries. Their music is challenging, though completely accessible. The live sets are re-interpretations of the recorded material adding dub effects, guitar dissonance, ever-changing vocal processing, Theremin and turntable madness. They appreciate the idea of "songs" and try to deliver interesting "songs" just as John Lennon or Al Green but with their own approach and their own stories and points of view. Look for the new album "Audio Noir" early next spring.
Visual: Okeanos
Michael Lazar is a performing video artist/VJ as well as a semi professional underwater videographer. The name "okeanos" under which he performs comes from the Greek Titan most closely associated with the oceans and rivers of the earth. His visual lexicon frequently incorporates marine subjects but live performances may be composed using a variety of [found video objects] that tie thematically into the larger context of the events at which he works.
Visual: ThInk
An aerosol artist since age 13, ThInk (a.k.a. Mike Stern) produces work infused with graffiti's strikingly raw style, textures, and calligraphic forms. Whether on canvas, concrete, or CRT, ThInk's work involves creating complex abstract compositions that stir restlessly on their surface. ThInk's latest creative pursuit is "live digital graffiti" - a process that involves recreating the forms and subject matter of graffiti art using a laptop and tablet. In doing so, ThInk makes the relationship between artist and viewer more intimate by allowing them to witness not only the artifact of the creative process but the process itself.
