i2010 Digital Libraries: DOA 1 ALL EU LANGUAGES
There are many languages in the EU. The text
probably refers to the "Official EU Languages". But given the scope and
timetable of Framework Programme 7, it is right, fitting, and proper that at the
very least, both Bulgarian and Roumanian ought to be included. The inclusion of
Bulgarian is the more significant in so far that for the first time, Cyrillic
alphabet is introduced into EU.

What
additional measures could be taken at national and European level to
encourage digitisation and online
accessibility of material in all European
languages?

Q.
Is Latin an official EU language?
A. I do not
think so.
Here in Ireland (English
& Gaelic), some of us EU-ans like to cable-access TV5 (French) and Deutsche
Welle (German).
Italian and Spanish were
never cable-available in our area (15 km west of
Dublin).
It is via cable of which I
speak and not satellite.
For us now
Deutsche Welle is no longer available.
It
seems there is a danger that TV5 will also
disappear,
In the near future, some of us
would like to have access to Hungarian
as
well as Bulgarian TV.
If these
(re)sources are denied what hope is there for the narrower ("academic") Digital
Libraries?
