  • Johnny Gurkha - Gurkha (Nepalese)
  • Jock - Scottish Soldier.
  • Taff - Welsh Soldier.
  • Paddy - Irish Soldier.
  • Sassenach - English Soldier (Used by Jocks)
  • G.I. Joe/ Doughboy - American Soldier.
  • Brillcream Boy - RAF Member.

General Chindit terms.

  • Mucker(s) - friends, two man fighting team.
  • Mate(s) - friends.
  • Minging - stinking/ smelly.
  • M.O. - Medical Officer.
  • Q.M. - Quarter Master.
  • Bint - Woman (Egyptian word)
  • Metal Umbrella - Painful treatment for VD, no need to describe!
  • Imshee! - Move it!, Scram! (Arabic word)
  • Jhaldi! - Move it!, Scram! (Indian word)
  • Charwallah - Tea seller (Indian word)
  • Punkawallah - Manual Fan Operator (Indian word)
  • Pukka - Great, Good, OK (Indian word)
  • Blighty - Home, UK, England.
  • Brew Up - Tea, Tea time.
  • Kit - Equipment.
  • Cheers - Good health, Thanks!
  • Jacksie - Backside, Buttocks.
  • Dodgy - Suspicious, Precarious.
  • Dhobie wallah - clothes washer (Indian).
  • Done up to the nines - wearing very formal clothing.
  • Fag(s) - cigarette(s) (British)
  • Fag break - self explanatory.
  • Bivvy - bivouac.
  • Dixie - army mess tin.
  • Paani - a local made alcoholic brew (Indian).
  • Banjo - Attack (command).
  • Jhow - Attack (command).
  • I should coco - Oh really! We'll see!!
  • Kharsie - toilet or latrine.
  • Gongs - medals
