British 14th Army Reenactment/ Living History Association.
This Japan based World War 2 living history group researches and portrays soldiers from the 111th Infantry Brigade (3rd Indian Division) from Major General Orde Wingate's 2nd Chindit operations (Long Range Penetration Special Forces - Operation Thursday 1944-45). The following is a guide of the brigade layout.
111th Infantry Brigade (3rd Indian Division)- Commanded by Brig. W.D.A. Lentaigne.
Units:
- 1st Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
- 2nd Battalion Kings Own Royal Regiment.
- 3rd Battalion/4 Gurkha Rifles.
- 4th Battalion/9 Gurkha Rifles.
Each Brigade was allocated one company of British, Indian or West African Engineers, Medical personnel, and RAF radio operators.
Each of the four units was split into two separate fighting columns. Each column consisted of 120 men. Wingate`s strategy was not to have separate columns fighting individual actions, but to have the Brigades reform to fight major battles of Divisional strength. These columns were flown into cleared designated jungle areas by Dakota aircraft and then proceeded to disrupt lines of communication, transport and supply routes vital to the Japanese war effort in Burma and on the North - Eastern Indian frontier. The columns were supplied by air every few days, with RAF & USAAF sorties dropping everything from food rations, weapons, ammunition, new uniforms and post to the men behind enemy lines. The conditions in the jungle that the soldiers experienced were extreme and tested human endurance to the limit. We dedicate our association and this site to those who served.
