DIDIER
ST. MELIN

COSMIC SUMO

THE BROTHERHOOD
DIDIER ST. MELIN
An Artist of the world Didier was trained in Paris as
a fashion designer working directly with the house, Pierre Cardin and
eventually his own fashion house. He studied art at the national school
of art in florence His impressive works attract the viewer and create
a feeling of inquisitiveness as to their message and origin. The magic
of creating for him is to work intuitively letting that which is unknown
come to the surface. Saint Melin finds that the use of automatism sometimes
lets him enter his works and keeps him painting until he merges with
the process often in a state of ecstasy and bliss.
Saint Melin states, “ There is that which is in-between the realm
of the seen and the unseen, known and unknown, sound and silence, existence
and potential, image and creation, thought and counter thought. It is
that from which the seed of all potentiality emanates. It is the space
between.” A quest for spiritual transcendence exists in Saint
Melin’s paintings, transcendence grafted with the concept of individual
vision that affects one’s perception of the world. A combination
of Eastern and Western philosophies in contemporary terms pervades his
work.
Born in Paris, France, Saint Melin came to Los Angeles in 1983. His
studio was located in the downtown Traction Ave. art district where
he painted and showed his work for many years. This world traveler presently
maintains a studio in Durango, Mexico.
