The settlers who survived the slaughter and destruction in the St. Croix Valley, abandon their homes and fields, running through the forest… The Sioux uprising in Minnesota was the bloodiest Indian War in North America.
More than 1,000 settlers have been killed and some 30,000 survivors of the slaughter are homeless. They are refugees, wondering :
"where will we be safe?, now where do we call home?…"

3.17 VAR HÖR VI HEMMA (Where Do We Call Home) 2:38
Nybyrggarna flyr undan de röda
[The new settlers flee before the reds]

DE FLYENDES KÖR: (The Fleeing Settlers Choir:)

Bud går om mord och illdåd

(We flee murder and outrage)

Bud går om blod och död

(We flee from blood and death)

Bittra av hatet flyr vi

(Bitter, and hated are we)

Bakom oss står himlen röd

(Behind us the sky turns red)

Våra hemvisten,

(All our homes,)

Våra marker

(And all of our fields)

Gavs de till oss som lån

(They gave us but a loan)

Allt som vi byggt och skapat

(All that we built and shaped here)

Ska allt tagas oss ifrån

(They took back, so now we roam)

Det vi höll för kärast, ska det snart ta slut

(What we hold as dearest, ends here all about)

Vart ska vi ta vägen tiden rinner ut

(Where shall we now go to, time is running out)

Ur tusen strupar, en enad stämma

(A thousand mouths cry, one united voice: )

-Var finns en fristad, var hör vi hemma-

("Where is there freedom?Where do we call home?")

Bud går om mord och illdåd

(We flee murder and outrage)

Bud går om blod och brand

(We run from blood and fire)
