The original owners of the land will suffer the new settlers no longer. The Sioux Indians have been dispossesed, murdered and starved… they have witnessed their Mother-Earth's rape and destruction. While the white-man is busy with & weakened by his Civil War, the medicine-men decide the time is ripe for revenge.
Under the leadership of chief ‘Red Iron’,they start a rebellion in the St. Croix Valley. They destroy crops, burn houses and torture and kill the settlers.
Danjel's son Sven and his family have a new farm on the western edge of the settlement near Acton. Danjel is visiting to help with the harvest... none of them survive the slaughter.
Unaware of the bloodshed, Kristina tells Karl Oskar she is again a "blessed" woman. She has placed her life in God's hands and is content, Karl Oscar however only hears Ulrika's warning over and over in his head - "next childbed means death for Kristina".

3.16 RED IRON / HJÄLP MEJ TRÖSTA (Red Iron / Help Me Calm Him) 2:56
Söndagen den 17 augusti 1862 fick den unga staten Minnesota
[On Sunday August 17, 1862 the young state of Minnesota]
Sitt eget inbördeskrig.
[Saw it's own civil war. ]
Det stora Sioux-upproret börjas
[The great Sioux uprising was started]
Av ett folk som alltför länge fått utstå hunger.
[By a people who had long suffered from hunger.]
Och... Kristina är återigen en välsignad kvinna
[And... Kristina is again a blessed woman - pregnant]

RED IRON TALAR: (Red Iron talks:)
[in the Dakota language of the Sioux]

Man a nokaf ba tah

(Man does not own the earth)

Ah na kan du na tah

(And what he does not own)

Du gu i gång så na tu na bah

(He obviously therefore can not sell)

Ai-yai, yai-yai...

Ah ca ma na jew nass - pak i choo

(Our graves are in these lands - Great Father)

I achius ma na jew nass - pak i

(My people received these lands - from Him)

Yoo nas ben day ya teen choo

(You promised gold and silver)

Ta shoo te - ta tanka!

(But gave us - just paper!)

A chiatta sa pia dinki

(You can fill-up all our valleys)

Pan dia pai a wacka di pai wacka tai wa

(With shining gold, we won't give-up our graves - mark my words)

Ah-na din ki choo!!

(All white men will die!)

Ai-yai, yai-yai...

KRISTINA:

Hör på mej, Karl Oskar, åtta gånger har jag varit med barn, och tänk att

(Hear me, please Karl Oskar, eight times now dear, have I carried your child, and think that)

Varje gång har det gått lyckligt, lika bra som då går det också

(Every time has, it gone smoothly, just as good then, as it will, also)

Denna gången, ängslas inte!

(Be good this time, don't worry dear!)

Du har ju inte gjort nåt illa

(You have done nothing bad, it's not wrong)

Att va samman med sin hustru är ingen synd, så frukta inte!

(To make love with, your wife, listen, it is no sin, so don't be afraid!)

RED IRON TALAR: (Red Iron talks:)
[in the Dakota language of the Sioux]

Ai-yai, yai-yai...

Ya ki li tink ta monta

(We march upon the warpath)

Oh i wawan nu chinchi gång ta

(By the victory fire I am asked)

A hi nanta du naska fachin kanta?!

(How did my tomahawk-arm become so sore?!)

Wakan tanka!!

(Crushing white skulls!!)

Ai-yai, yai-yai...

Wakan tanka wawas ni ta wa yoos i porkha

(Crushing white skulls and burning farms we'll take our land back)

Jay i nokapoos mai ni choos pay noo narka

(They thought we'd starve to death when they rounded us up)

Tu joos neeta!

(We will survive!)

Tu joos neeta makah-bah tu boon gan jew

(We will survive and take back our hunting grounds)

Chianta!

(Revenge!)

ha-ha-ha! Chianta!

(ha-ha-ha! Revenge!)

He-ed dwes di acachoo! - hu!!

(All white men must die now! - hu!!)

KRISTINA:

Värra än jag fruktat, aldrig såg jag honom så förskräckt och så skakad

(It went worse than I feared, I never saw him look so frightened and so shaky)

Käre Herre, hjälp mej trösta, ge mej hjalp att ta bort hans ängslan

(My Dear Lord please, help me calm him, give me help to take away his fears)

Ingenting jag säger hjälper

(Nothing that I'm saying's helping)

Han ser allt som sin skuld, sitt ansvar

(He sees it as his fault, his making…)

Jag ska göra allt jag orkar,

(I'll do anything I can do,)

Men Gud, jag är så trött och kraftlös

(But God, I am so tired and strengthless)
