Nils and Märta are the parents of Karl Oscar
and Axel Robert. On their farm - "Korpamoen",
it looks as though it rained stones from the sky during the first six days of the Creation.
Nils has already damaged his back, fighting the stones
on his farm for a few more square metres of tillable land.
One day while using his crowbar, a large rock he
is trying to shift rolls onto his legs and leaves him crippled.
His eldest son, who is just as headstrong as himself,
must now return from Duvemåla, where he has been working as a farmhand.
Nils tells his son "If you become a farmer, you'll
need a wench".
"I'll find one" Karl Oscar replies, sure of himself.
"Braggart!" curses his father.
Karl Oskar is only 14, hardly of age,
when he takes over his parents' farm.
