Kristina has had a massive haemorrhage. Ulrika takes
her to the doctor and is petrified to hear that she may lose her best friend
if she falls pregnant again. The doctor asks Ulrika to scare Karl Oscar
into not touching Kristina, "next childbed will be her deathbed…".
ULRIKA:
Det kommer an på dej vad som ska hända med din hustru
(It has come down to you what now shall happen to your wife here)
Om hon ska leva eller dö
(If she shall live or if she'll die)
KARL OSKAR:
Du skrämmer mej, Ulrka!
(You're scaring me, Ulrika!)
ULRIKA:
Doktorn sa till mej att jag ska skrämma dej så mycket som jag kan
(Doctor said to me that I should frighten you just as much as I can)
Av alla födslar som hon genomgått, och av sitt missfall
(From all the births that she has gone through, and from this miscarriage)
Har hon gått sönder och nu tål hon inte mer,
(Her body's worn out and can't take it any more,)

Nästa barnsäng den betyder döden för Kristina, var hans ord
(Next time she gives birth will be the death of poor Kristina, were his words)
ULRIKA:
Han bad mej föra fram ett angeläget budskap till dej
(He asked me to convey an anxious message from him to you)
Vill du behålla henne, ja då får du hålla dej från din hustru
(If you want to keep her, then you must keep yourself completely away from your wife)
Hädanefter, aldrig mera får hon bli med barn
(So from now on, …never again can she be with child)

Hon ska bli kry igen, hon fick två sorters mediciner

Dom ska hon ta tre gånger dagligen och sedan

Ska hon äta strävig kost och inte sitta så förtvivlat som hon gjort
(She will eat solid food again and she must not work so hard as she has done before)
