Sitting on 'the America chest' in Battery Park with the children, Kristina divides-up the apple Karl Oscar has bought her. It makes her think of the "Astrakan"apples back home in Duvemåla, where today they'll be holding Midsummer celebrations.
The immigrants have decided to travel to Minnesota.
Fina-Kajsa's rich son has a house there (at least, that's what he says in his
letters!).
Kristina sings to her son Johan about how they shall have a real home for the family there…
