I am based in the Peak District of Derbyshire, England and photograph the wildlife of the British Isles, in particular of northern Britain. Although I do travel occasionally, I find endless inspiration in the wildlife and scenery of the British Isles.

I have concentrated for a number of years on close-up (macro) photography, and have developed a specific interest in the photography of insects in flight, as well as other small animals in motion. To do this I use several items of specialised equipment and have spent many hours learning the intricacies of insect behaviour, without which these images would not be possible.

Although insect flight remains a major part of my work, it is complemented by a wide variety of natural history subjects, most of which are taken in the wild, using natural light wherever possible. As well as insects, I photograph other animals, including mammals and birds, as well as a wide variety of plants and landscape images.

Originally a qualified ecologist and experienced naturalist, I am now employed as a photographer in the School of Biology, Chemistry and Health Science at Manchester Metropolitan University.

My photographs have featured in a number of books and magazines and I have been the recipient of a "highly commended" in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the year competition.
