Medicine Associates has been providing high-risk obstetrical services in the
Los Angeles area for approximately 15 years. At the present time, our group
consists of two full-time MFM specialists, five ultrasound technicians, two
full-time Nurse Practitioners, and one part-time Nurse Practitioner. Together
with Nurses, Medical Assistants, Clerical and Administrative personnel, MFMA
currently consists of approximately 18 associates. We provide services from three
locations namely, Torrance, Lynwood and Inglewood. Our main office is currently
on the beautifully renovated campus of St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood
(approximately 20 minutes south of Downtown Los Angeles). The population we
serve is diverse with over 50 percent Spanish-speaking at the Lynwood and
Inglewood sites. About 60 percent of our patients are insured via Medi-Cal
(Medicaid) while the remainders are covered under either HMO or private
insurance. St. Francis Medical Hospital has a 29 bed level two NICU staffed by
four full-time Neonatologists. Our
practice provides virtually all aspects of perinatal care, including prenatal
diagnosis and genetic counseling, first trimester screening for aneuploidy,
fetal echocardiography, as well as high-risk antepartum care and a vast array
of outpatient consultations. We
perform 3D/4D obstetrical ultrasounds at our Lynwood and Inglewood
locations. Our
outpatient services are very dynamic, involving approximately 350 patient
visits per week, approximately 150 ultrasound examinations and 10 amniocenteses
weekly in addition to numerous non-stress tests, biophysical profiles, and
umbilical artery doppler velocimetry. Our ultrasound practice is AIUM
accredited, and our offices are approved by the state of California for
expanded AFP services and follow-up. For our genetic services, we work in
collaboration with Genzyme Genetics, who provides us with genetic counselors,
Clinical Geneticists, and other related laboratory services.
