| | Last Thursday the wash is thick with fountain grass beginning to green up. | |
| | | After Saturday's work, this is the same area now clear of fountain grass. | |
| | | The group begins its day hiking down into the wash with bars, bags and water. | |
|
| | A group of 20 5th graders from the Sunnyside School District joined us. | |
| | | They found plants as big as they were. | |
| | | They started carrying out heavy bags filled with fountain grass. | |
|
| | Some carried two bags which probably weighed close to their body weight. | |
| | | Sometimes two of them carried two bags over a digging bar. | |
| | | Everyone dug grass and carried bags. | |
|
| | The adults were thrilled to see the 5th graders helping with the heavy work. | |
| | | They were a wonderful positive energy in the wash. | |
| | | 107 bags equals about 3000 pounds of invasive grasses removed today. | |
|
| | Total=210 volunteers/1300 hours/7.5 tons pulled from Trail's End Wash in 2007. | |
| | | The 107 bags will be removed Monday. | |
| | | The 5th graders from Sunnyside provided valuble help and energy. | |
|
| | Now this part is clear; we will return on January 19 for more. | |
