Scott Maxwell/Tracy Krohn/Joe Fox | MR Collection (Raccoon) kit
Notes: This project started with a great idea of having a unique model of a great looking racer. All I need is a kit to base it off of. Well, none was coming. MR Collection offered a built model of a Murcilago racer. Kind of expensive for something that would be taken apart and rebuilt. There is also the idea of using the Auto Art diecast as a start. To make that work, plenty of parts would need to be made to be accurate. So I waited. After a couple years, kits from Raccoon started to appear on Ebay. Still pricey, but at least I wouldn't be taking apart a nice model to rebuild. I hate stripping paint and taking things apart risking damage to parts. This is the MR Collection set of parts that are used to make their handbuilts. Excellent set of parts. Crisp resin, mixed with cleanly cast white metal parts and nice set of details of photo-etched parts. The kit just works beautifully. The livery is something else. The black areas are painted. That took two trys since it had to go around some complicated body panels. The masking didn't go as planned the first time. There was some bleed around some of the lower areas. Of course it had to be semetrical too. The flourecent strips are hand cut from extra decals from previously built kits. The decals that needed drawn were just sponsors and numbers. There are two kit variations available. I couldn't tell the difference when buying. The main difference is the vents behind the front wheels and the front splitter. I got the wrong kit. But I figured this all out after purchasing. So thats that. The wheels are correct. I did have to make the roof vent. That was an addition that came later in the year. I was making the car as it ran at Petit Le Mans since I was at that race. No other changes were made to the kit. Only the usual use of carbon fiber decals on the front splitter, rear wing and diffuser were added. It's a well thought out set of parts as good as any BBR kit. |
