'Sacred to the Memory': Scene 1, Take 1

Now this is exciting: Here's a preview of the first five pages of "Sacred to the Memory" -- my long-gestating collaboration with Scott Allie.

"Sacred" is a 60-page comic book about author and opium-sot Thomas De Quincey. Mr. Allie -- who edits "Hellboy" and other comics over at Dark Horse -- wrote the script, and he's been insanely patient while I finally get around to drawing the damned thing. (I got off to a good start months and months ago, but was waylaid by sudden lurches into CulturePulp and film criticism.)

Scene 1 concerns our "hero" having a waking fever dream about his dead sister. For the moment, I'm fairly happy with the artwork -- up to and including the image of a little boy kissing his encephalitic dead sibling -- but will undoubtedly have to re-draw the whole thing from scratch after I finish the other 50-odd pages. (Also, my lettering font will probably be replaced by the chicken scratches of a real live human at some point.)

Still reading? There are two ways to take a gander:

(1) The fast way: Click this "Read More" link (or the one below) to read it online.

(2) The slow way: Download this ridiculously large (but also ridiculously hi-rez) PDF: Sacred.1thru5.pdf
