Sun - August 12, 2007CulturePulp 64: The Faerieworlds Taxonomy![]() Last month, my stepdaughter wanted to go to the 2007 Faerieworlds Festival -- a sort of Saturday Market / outdoor concert for people who like to dress in "magickal" costumes and bliss out to shamanic healing songs. It was a lovely afternoon. And it was interesting to see how attendees slotted into certain demographic subcategories. In fact, you can read a non-fiction comic strip on this very subject right here, at CulturePulp's new WCN archive. So I decided to make a comic strip about it. You can read this comic in its entirety here, at CulturePulp's new WCN archive. OHSU's dermatology department asked me to illustrate five "Acne Myths" in comic-strip form. These comics appear in a light-box display at OMSI's "Body Worlds 3: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies." I adapted OHSU's script with a color assist from Chad Essley (and a character assist from Dr. Do and Mr. Don't). If you'd like to enjoy the comics as intended -- i.e., surrounded by flayed and plasticized corpses -- you can find them at OMSI from June 28 to July 4. Otherwise, you can have all your misconceptions about zits corrected right here, in CulturePulp's WCN archive. CulturePulp 62: Acne Myths! Endnotes &
Digressions:
1. Would you like to know more? You can visit the Sprockettes online at www.sprockettes.org or myspace.com/sprockettes. 2. Want to see the Sprockettes for yourself? They’re performing May 19 at 11 a.m. at the Three Bridges Opening in Milwaukie and June 23 at noon at the Multnomah County Bike Fair at Colonel Summers Park (Southeast 20th and Belmont, Portland). 3. My photo-reference for this comic is online at CulturePulp's new Flickr account. You can view the set here. 4. As mentioned above, the Sprockettes were rehearsing a routine built around the song "Old Bikes" by the Trucks. You can hear a sample of the song at The Trucks' Web site, or you can find the single here at the iTunes music store. 5. This comic will have online bonus features! I’ll post a transcript of my 35-minute post-rehearsal conversation with the Sprockettes in the next few days. Lettering too small? You can download a
