So where the hell did CulturePulp go, anyway?

A reader just e-mailed me the following:

"Hey, Mike: It's been EONS since there's been a culturepulp [comic]. I checked out your site for clues as to why it might be (it looks like you are now focusing more on movie reviews), but there's no official explanation. What gives? I miss 'em!"

I've been asked this a few times recently. So for the handful who care, here's the deal:

Basically, I took a sort of "book leave" from the comic -- partly to make some much-needed extra scratch at another gig, but also to make a serious dent in this, which I began just before CulturePulp started in 2004 (and which CulturePulp completely derailed, to my eternal shame).

Anyway. There's good news if you've been craving a pop-journalism comic starring a bug-eyed, footless dork: We're getting the band back together.

With both dents and scratch now being made at manageable levels, the CulturePulp comic will return on Sunday, Jan. 21 -- both here and in the Oregonian. (I'm also hatching plans to take all fiftysomething CP installments to Webcomics Nation in the near future.)

At the top of this post is a teaser image from CulturePulp 56. The first person to correctly guess (in the comments section) the strip's interview subject gets a modest original sketch. (UPDATE: We have a winner.)
