Endnotes and Digressions:

1. Want to get ready for the 2006 Fest? You can learn more at Stumptown’s official Web site, PDXcomix.com.

2. Almost to a person, Stumptown attendees obliterated those hoary old “Comic Book Guy” stereotypes. The new generation of exhibitors, guests and panelists were frequently young, smart, educated, social, female, possessed of terrifying skill, and, if I may be so bold, rather fetching. That and short.

3. BTW, the four-person teams in the main Art Battle were, I believe, as follows:

Girls: Colleen Coover, Sarah Oleksyk, Carolyn Main and Melody Nadia Shickley;

Boys: Alex Meil, Alex Cahill, Aaron Renier and Jeff Parker.

You may also notice these outstanding writers and cartoonists aren’t pictured much in this comic. That would be because my photo reference for this one was woefully incomplete. So.

3. My panel on non-fiction comics actually came off pretty swell -- thanks to some well-spoken insights by David Chelsea, Dennis Eichhorn, Khris Soden, and Ryan Alexander-Tanner (who challenged yours truly to the "Art Battle" pictured above). It was a wonderful exclamation point after the events of two days earlier -- when I watched a bunch of mainstream newspaper editors seriously ponder the idea of "comics journalism" during a conference in Denver.

So. Thank you, Indigo, for running yourself ragged. Portland's a haven for both D.I.Y. and mainstream cartoonists, because it's still a relatively cheap city and home to three major publishers; now it has a con that's worthy of that diversity. Dylan Meconis and I want to put together a panel on webcomics for next year, if you'll have us. ( Mr. Baldwin: We are glancing in your direction, sir!)

5. And finally, thanks to this wonderful blog entry by PNCA student Reid Beels, which was crucial in helping me reconstruct the event for this comic.
