EDUCATION: Associates Degree, Art, Southwestern College, San Diego, CA, 1977; Continued education in quilting industry by attending workshops and/or seminars several times each year; continues to study and research quilt history. Took the AQS “Appraisal Certification” classes at Vermont Quilt Festival in 2004.

EXPERIENCE: Began making quilted pillows in 1973 (self-taught); first full-size quilt completed in 1984.Teacher of Basic Quiltmaking (adult Ed) 1988 to present. Teaches various workshops throughout the Eastern Coast of the US. Lecturer on "History of American Quilting" from 1990 to present; presentations to numerous local organizations, historical societies, and schools. Does quilt history consulting (incl. “Antique Quiltathon” sessions: verbal appraisals of antique quilts). Does small-scale quilt commissions. Designs original quilt patterns, including a popular series of mystery quilts under the pen name of “Merry Mayhem’s Mystery Quilts.” Invented and copyrighted the "Gridded Geese" system to mass-produce Flying Geese units, 1994. Works part-time at Calico N Cotton, a quilt shop in Ocean City, NJ since 1999. Faculty member of Quilt University (www.QuiltUniversity.com) from 2000-2004. Vermont Quilt Festival instructor 2002, 2003, 2006 & 2008; NJ Quilt Convention instructor, June 2003, 2006. Guest curator of quilt exhibit (“Out of the Trunk”) at the Cape May Co. Historical Museum, Sept.’05-Apr. 2006. Taught on 5-day Quilt-N-Cruise to Canada, June 2006.

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS: Nominated for Professional Quilter magazine’s “Teacher of the Year” in 2003 & 2008. Taped a segment about collecting antique quilts on PAX Network's show Treasures in Your Home, Jan. 2000; aired 1/28/2000. Interviewed in "Quiltmaker Tales" video special taped by NJN during the State Quilt Guild of NJ's first statewide quilt show, Nov. '99; "Thanks for the Memories" quilt featured; won a First Place ribbon for "Liberty" quilt. Viewer Tip appeared on Sewing with Nancy PBS program; Part 3 of the "Quilting Options" series, first aired in Fall 1991; also published in "501 Sewing Hints" by Nancy Zieman, published by Oxmoor House. Has won awards in quilt block contests, including: Quilter's Newsletter Magazine's 20th Anniv. Contest, 1989; 2nd Generation Sunbonnet Family Reunion Block Contest sponsored by Groves Publishing, 1990 (Bertha Corbett Award).
