youga granary

Typical of the other Dogon villages we saw along the northern Dogon escarpment, prominent features of Youga Dougourou included small mud brick homes surrounded by granaries. These narrow storage facilities had peaked thatched roofs which reminded me of witch hats. With a plenty of rocks and little wood, fences and boundaries were formed by carefully piling rocks.
