The city of Djenne is filled with beautiful old
mud-brick homes in the Sudanic style. Certain features such as the entryway
revealed the exact style. Like most buildings in Mali, the flat roofs
not only provided a great view of the city, but also was a great place
for sleeping in the hot season. I was surprised by how many buildings
in Djenne were more than a single story - quite unlike the homes found
in other villages in Mali.
