Built in 1325, the Djingareiber mosque is a quiet reminder of Timbuktu as a center for religious study during the 14th through 16th centuries. To repair the cracked surface caused by the harsh elements including infrequent downpours, men would climb up the wooden spoke supports and smear a fresh coat of mud. |
