endé escarpment
The escarpment in Endé and other Dogon villages are littered with tiny buildings, many of which were built by the Tellem who lived in the area prior to the Dogon. How anyone could build and live in such tiny structures so high up in the escarpment amazed me. The Dogon say that the pygmy Tellem could fly; archeologists speculate that the area used to receive more rain and that the Tellem could climb up vines. Some of the structures are used by the Dogon for burial or for storage.
