[Show] Last season, Ghost Whisperer took a huge creative risk. Jim …, the supportive husband of Melinda … died, refused to cross over, and stepped into the body of a dying man named Sam. Melinda and viewers knew Sam was Jim, but it took Jim, whose soul suffered some sort of amnesia in its new body (which viewers still saw as Conrad’s), some time to figure it out. He finally did, and the season ended with the couple learning that they were pregnant (the baby is Jim-Jim’s) and that the child will be able to do “much, much more” than his mother, who can see and hear dead people.

And I fell in love with the character. I was truly inspired by her strength as well as her vulnerability. I felt she was a ‘super hero’. [DVD] After a pretty intense second season, Ghost Whisperer kicks it up a notch with some new and exciting developments. In season two, the series went beyond its first season to include a bigger focus on the darker aspects. This development included some interesting background information to Melinda’s lineage. In season three, it goes even further. The feel-good approach from season one is (almost) completely replaced with more mysterious, gloomier stories.

[Interview] Jennifer Love Hewitt … told SCI FI Wire that the season-two finale will provide an explanation for her character’s frequent encounters with the dark side of the spirit world. “You will finally understand in the end of the season why the dark side sort of has this defiant stare on this girl in particular,” Hewitt said in an interview on the set.
