About the MelindaVerse

The Bears have set up the MelindaVerse site to be a source for things about the CBS Television show Ghost Whisperer. Any comments, criticisms, or corrections can be sent by email our webmaster Rodney D. Rat where we will give it their utmost consideration. To discuss Ghost Whisperer with The Bears, join us at The House of Ghost Whisperer Forum where we regularly hang out (and where much of the material on this site was originally posted). [The Forum was closed 21 June 2007 and reopened June 24.]

This site is maintained by The Bears. Like the characters on Ghost Whisperer The Bears are fantasy creatures ourselves. In real life, stuffed animals don’t have much to say. But in fiction, which is what Ghost Whisperer is all about, anything is possible and we gain our voices. We do have some help with this from two human and two feline companions named Jan, Thain, Flash and Sparkle. But our thoughts are our own, not those of any of our “real” companions. Thain and The Chief Pack Rat, Rodney, help with the typing and keeping up the computer (bear paws are not good for that although they do fine with salmon). Jan and Thain both help edit our remarks so we sound as good as possible. And Flash and Sparkle – well they help us remember to live in the moment just like Melinda told Jim to do in “Free Fall.”

If you haven’t figured it out already, we are great fans of Ghost Whisperer, its creator John Gray and his team, and its talented, charming, and beautiful star Jennifer Love Hewitt. Anyone who doesn’t like this show or its star might see the wrong end of a bear claw! In particular, we have great faith that Mr. Gray and Ms Hewitt will do the right thing for the show to prosper and thus we don’t have much tolerance for people who get all excited about side issues like Andrea dying. We feel the show is all about Melinda Gordon – other characters can come and go without hurting it.

Anything goes in fantasy and The Bears really enjoy a good ghost fantasy – be it Ghost Whisperer, Ghost Busters, or Topper. But we are confirmed rationalists and skeptics about “real” life. We have trouble with real people who claim to have seen a ghost or mediums who claim to be able to communicate with them. Harry Houdini, probably the greatest magician of all time, spent the end of his life searching for a medium who could communicate with his dead wife. His close friend Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (creator of the most rational fantasy character of all time, Sherlock Holmes) introduced him to many of these mediums. Yet in the end, Houdini was able to prove every one of them a fake. Nothing since then has changed Houdini’s conclusion a whit. We Bears firmly believe that all mediums are most likely to be frauds. Only the threat of legal action has kept skeptics from exposing the lot of them. This being said, The Bears are impressed that Co-Executive Producer (and medium) James Van Praagh has played a major role in creating the marvelous character of Melinda Gordon.
