The new blog! The New BLOG! The NEW Blog!

Since Apple is discontinuing the ability to update the homepage.mac.com sites and instead using the newer web.me.com sites (plus the fact that the iBlog stand alone program is getting a tad long in the tooth) I have taken the plunge and will begin to use the iWeb program. The new blog shall be located at:

The Stench of Wisdom

On Saturday I met a friend from Boston in Times Square. We had lunch in the area and then took the subway to the Village where we walked around for awhile and then went to Swifts. After Swifts we walked around and ended up at a place near Madison Square Park for an early dinner. This was followed by more walking around and checking out movie theatres to see if there was anything worth seeing at a convenient time that wasn't already sold out (there wasn't). We then took the subway to the Command Bunker to watch a free movie on demand on TV. A little after 10 PM, my friend left the bunker to take the subway to Queens where he was staying.

Is Meglomanious one of The Watchmen?

Click here to save the world!

Yesterday, I met the Infamous PM at Bar Stuzzichini near Madison Square park at around 1 PM for brunch. There were several people there including some who were visiting NYC from California. I had met some of these individuals in 2007 in the Dominican Republic at UltraMod's wedding.

Then...

Later shortly before 7 PM I met the SupremeMinister and The Emperor at the Kips Bay cinema. We saw the film The Watchmen which is an adaptation from a graphic novel concerning a dystopian alternative reality. It was long but good and visually/graphically well worth watching. After the cinematic experience, we retired for a late dinner at the Waterfront Ale House.

Also on Friday I took the subway from the office in midday back to the Upper East Side to look at a new apartment that I am considering taking.

Morrissey

After a fun filled day of jet lag recovery; picking up a package from the UPS Store; going to the bank; having a dentist appointment; purchasing and reading the New York Times; and grocery shopping; the Emperor, The SupremeMinister and I met at Carnegie Hall to see Morrissey in concert. It was a most excellent concert. The opening act was The Courteeners.

Santo Domingo

Click here NOW and check out the list of travels and metro systems!

On Friday, in my wisdom, I took the subway to Pennsylvania Station from whence I took the LIRR to Jamaica and then the AirTrain to the new JetBlue terminal at JFK. At JFK I boarded a non-stop flight to Santo Domingo, The Dominican Republic. In Santo Domingo I was met by a friend. We went back to his apartment where we hung out for awhile joined by his wife. That evening we went to a great restaurant in a cave near the ocean (El Mason de la Cava). The next day (Saturday) my friend and I went to the Modern Art museum and the Museum of the Dominican People which had artifacts going back to the earliest Indian settlers. After this rode the new Metro system (currently only one line) in Santo Domingo that was quite impressive. That evening we went to a dinner party at a private house that featured Asian food. The following day (today, i.e., Sunday) the three of use had lunch at a restaurant on a beach east of Santo Domingo. Immediately after finishing there, I was dropped off at the airport to return to JFK via JetBlue and then back to the Command Center via AirTrain, LIRR and NYC subway.

The Great Escape into Dystopia...

Click here now if you know what you want...

So on Saturday, the SupremeMinister and I saw the Italian crime drama, Gomorah, at the IFC Center (Waverly Theatre) in the Village. The SupremeMinister who speaks fluent Italian as well as the Calabrian dialect, said that he understood about 75% of the Neapolitan dialect. Afterwards we had sushi at a nearby restaurant.

This week has been a busy week. I had a business lunch on Tuesday downtown and a business dinner on Tuesday night at a Midtown Japanese restaurant. On Wednesday morning I had another meeting. I am taking tomorrow off from work to fly to Santo Domingo.

Paul Collins' Beat

Click here for peace and justice!

Last night I took the 6 NYC MTA subway line to 59th Street and from thence took a W train to 34th Herald Square. At that particular station I changed to a PATH subway train to Hoboken. At Hoboken I walked the mile or so to Maxwell's. At Maxwell's I met the Infamous PM and El Diablo. At Maxwell's we saw the Paul Collins' Beat which has now been added to the glorious rock concert list.

Last Sunday in full spirit of boycotting the Super Bowl (aka the Stupor Bowl), I met with a comrade who was visiting with his wife-to-be at Swifts after which we went to the B Bar & Grill for supper. I also saw them again on Tuesday evening on the Lower East Side at Spitzter's Corner for dinner.

Metallica, Prudential Center, January 31 2009

Click here and memorize the rock concert list!

Yesterday I took the subway to Grand Central Terminal to meet a member of the Imperial Meglomanious Family. We took the subway back to the Imperial Bunker to drop off his luggage before taking the subway (6 train to the E train) to Pennsylvania Station. At Pennsylvania Station we took a New Jersey Transit train to Newark. At Newark we walked to the new Prudential Center for the Metallica concert which began at 7 PM. The opening acts were The Sword followed by Machine Head. Metallica took the stage at 9 PM and finished around 11:20 - 11:30 PM.

The concert was great. Instead of the typical stage at one end of the arena, there was a stage in the middle of the floor that was fairly bare. The members of the band would walk around the stage facing various directions. There were microphones on each side of the stage. The pyrotechnics and the light show (including some laser) was very. The acoustics of the new Prudential Center were very good. The interaction between the band and the audience was excellent. At one point the singer/guitarist noticed a kid in the front row. He asked how old the kid was and then mentioned that the kid was 10 years old. The singer went on about how great it was to be in the front row at age 10 and about the next generation of Metallica fans. For the final song the drummer went over to the side of the stage and crouched down and spoke with people in the front row and security. Then the 10 year old kid was lifted by security and handed to the drummer. The drummer brought the kid to the drum kit in the middle of the stage and had the kid start the next song on drums before handing the kid back to the parents.

After the concert we took a 12:09 AM train back from Newark to Penn Station and then the subway back to the Upper East Side where we had a very late meal at a diner. The next day we had a late breakfast at another local diner. We then took the subway to Grand Central so that Imperial Family member could catch a train back from whence he came.

Today Meglomanious is proudly boycotting the Stupor Bowl!

The Majesty and Authority of Meglomanious! (plus the Hoover Dam!)

Click here or forever hold your peace!

On Sunday, in my infinite wisdom, I took the Lexington Avenue subway to 51st Street from whence I took an E subway train to Penn Station. From Penn Station I took a Long Island Railroad train to Jamaica to connect to the AirTrain to my terminal (JetBlue's new and impressive Terminal 5) at JFK. From JFK I took a non-stop JetBlue flight to Las Vegas. At the airport at Las Vegas, I took a taxi to a golf resort about 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas. I was there to attend a business meeting/conference. The meetings began about Noon on Monday and lasted until about Noon on Wednesday with dinners and receptions as well. On Tuesday, the afternoon was dedicated to golf for those who were golfers. Since Meglomanious has avoided, at all cost, the playing of sports for as long as can be remember, He, in his wisdom, chose another one of the activities. A group of about 20 from the meeting took a bus along with a tour guide to the Hoover Dam. I was very impressed by the engineering as well as the natural vista of the area. I took 31 photographs with my iPhone. Some are above.

I got back to civilization via the same means (taxi, jet [this time Delta], AirTrain, LIRR and subway) on Wednesday.

Maybe its the economy. Maybe it is because it is January and because at least Wednesday's leg of the odyssey was midweek, but flying was actually somewhat pleasant. The airports (JFK and Las Vegas) were not too crowded. Check in including checking of baggage was quick and painless. The security lines were not bad. The planes while not empty, were not packed and sold out. Both the JetBlue Airbus 320 and the Delta Boeing 757 featured TV monitors in front of each seat. Each plane seemed reasonably new and clean. And while it is expected with JetBlue, the flight attendants on each trip were pleasant and helpful. Shockingly, the food that I purchased on the Delta flight (a Chicken Thai Salad for $8.00) was surprisingly good. Also the newness of Terminal 5 at JFK and the reasonable newness of the Las Vegas airport made it more pleasant. The only older terminal was the Delta terminal upon arrival at JFK. It wasn't bad but one could tell it was not as inspiring and is getting a bit old.

With a Klik Klak here and a Klik Klak there...

When in need, click here for something that shall transform your life...

On Wednesday morning I took the subway to Herald Square from there I took the PATH subway to Hoboken. Then it was a New Jersey Transit train ride all the way to Gladstone. Then, yes THEN, it was a taxi to a business meeting followed by a business lunch. Then it was back to civilization via the train and PATH subway.

On Friday I took the subway way way, I mean way, out to Brooklyn to, for the first time, visit the apartment of the Infamous PM. We were joined later by El Diablo. It was a long trek back to civilization late at night with some subway repairs diverting trains. I saw El Diablo to Grand Central Station where he just barely made the last train (1:53 AM) back to his little section of The Land of the Undead (aka suburbia).

Upcoming concerts: Metallica, Morrissey, and The Pogues.
