    PLAY THE CAMPING GAME

    Tell the Story:
We are going on a camping trip in the spring. We will cook marshmallows and tell stories. We will need to bring special things for camping. We will use a map to show us the way. We will set up a tent. We will bring our sleeping bags and our flashlight so we can see in the dark.

    Play the Game:

    1. Pretend we are going on a camping trip. We will sleep in a tent. Let's set up a make-believe tent. Put a sheet over the top of a table.
    2. Pretend our pillowcases are sleeping bags. How many do we need? (Count the people playing the game.)
    3. Winter, spring, summer and autumn (or “fall”) are the names of the seasons. When should we go camping?
      • Winter is be too cold for camping outside. Brrrrr!
Spring is nice. It’s warm and the flowers grow.
      • Summer might be too hot.
      • Autumn, when leaves change color, could be fun.
    4. Let’s go camping in the spring so we can look at the colors of the pretty flowers. Name the colors: blue, green, yellow, red, pink, and purple. (Colors page.) We see birds in a tree and green grass growing.
    5. Let’s put pretend marshmallows on sticks and cook them over a pretend fire. How many do we have?
    6. Listen! We hear a noise outside of our tent. “Grrrrr!” Let’s look outside with our flashlight. Oh, it’s a tiger!
      A
tiger says, “Grrrrr!” But we’re not afraid; we’re brave!
    7. The tiger says, “May I please have a marshmallow?” Let’s share our marshmallows with the tiger. He says, “Thank you!” We say, “You’re welcome.”
    8. It’s time to get in our sleeping bags in the tent and listen to a bedtime story. It’s time to say, “Good-night” to all of our friends. Lights out!
Activities to Do after Playing the Game:
(Choose one each time you play)
    • Help children name the four seasons in order and tell you what happens in each season.
    • Draw the tent, the sleeping bags or the marsh mallows on the stick. What shapes are they?
    • Help children draw colorful flowers and name the colors.
    • Now, make up other Season Games!
