• Practicing words that tell where things are: in front of and behind (in back of), under and on (on top of), near and far, next to; and binoculars.
• Practicing cooperation and taking turns.

1. WHAT YOU NEED
"MATERIALS" FROM THIS WEB SITE:

FROM YOUR HOME OR SCHOOL:
• Paper plate and crayons or non-toxic markers
• Pretend ‘
binoculars’ – two cardboard inserts from paper towel or toilet paper rolls, taped together
2. BEFORE YOU PLAY
• Help children draw a “Kitten” puppet on a paper plate or bag.
• Use
Kitten Pictures to help children practice in front of and behind (in back of), under and on (on top of), near and far.
• Set up chairs, cushions or other things for Kitten to hide
in front of, behind, on (on top of) and under.
• First, you play the role of “Kitten” and children take turns using the pretend ‘
binoculars’ to find Kitten.
3. INSTRUCTIONS FOR PLAYING THE GAME
(Help children practice the words in red)

TELL THE STORY:
I am your clever Kitten, who likes to hide. You look for me with
binoculars that help you to see things that are far away. If you find me and say where I am, I'll make a happy kitten sound like this: “Meow!” If you say the wrong words, I'll be sad and make a sad sound like this (a different, sad “Meow”).

PLAY THE GAME:

  1. On (On Top Of) and Under: Put Kitten puppet on (on top of), then under a chair, cushion or table. Ask child with binoculars: Where is the Kitten? You meow to say if child is right or wrong. Ask a child to put Kitten puppet on (on top of), then under a chair, cushion or table. Meow to say if child is right or wrong.
  2. In Front and Behind: Put Kitten puppet in front of, then behind a chair, cushion or table. Ask child with binoculars: Where is the Kitten? You meow to say if child is right or wrong. Ask a child to put Kitten puppet in front of, then behind a chair, cushion or table. Meow to say if child is right or wrong.
  3. Near and Far: Put Kitten puppet far away from, then near to the child with binoculars. Ask child: Where is the Kitten? You meow to say if child is right or wrong. Ask a child to put Kitten puppet far away from, then near to a chair, cushion, table or other child. Meow to say if child is right or wrong
  4. Put Kitten next to children. Pat the Kitten and make happy Meow! sounds.
