About this installer package:
The Font Finagler disk image, provided on the previous page, allows a simple drag-and-drop type install, and is usually sufficient for most users. The Font Finagler installer package provided here is intended primarily for existing customers for whom I created a custom installer package to originally install and set up Font Finagler.

Note to System Administrators:
When you originally installed Font Finagler 0.5.3, you may have chosen to have Font Finagler set up to use the Administrator-Free Font Cache Cleaner mode. If your users are currently set up to use this mode, then when you update Font Finagler to version 1.0 using the installer package provided above, Font Finagler will be set up like in the image shown below:

Font Finagler Administrator Preferences

In other words, your users will automatically gain the ability to clean the OS X font cache files, but not the ability to clean any of the other types. If you'd like to configure a user's machine without having to use Font Finagler's interface, you can do so using the "finagler" command-line tool that's installed at /usr/local/bin/. (If you use Apple Remote Desktop to manage a group of Macs, you can use its "Send UNIX Command" command to set the group of Macs up simultaneously).

The command to set the "allowed Administrator-Free scope" takes the following form:

/usr/local/bin/finagler --setAllowedScope n

where n is an integer value from 0 to 15 derived by using the table below.

To determine the value of n you should use, determine which files you want to allow and then add together the values according to the table below:

No font caches (i.e. regular user mode)
= 0
Mac OS X font cache files
= 1
Adobe font cache files
= 2
QuarkXPress font cache files
= 4
Microsoft Office font cache files
= 8
All font cache files
= 15

For example, to enable Adobe and QuarkXPress font cache files, (and thereby disable OS X and Microsoft font cache files), you'd use 2+ 4 = 6:

/usr/local/bin/finagler --setAllowedScope 6

The following command would disable all four types of font cache files, effectively disabling the Administrator-Free feature and returning all users to the normal user mode:

/usr/local/bin/finagler --setAllowedScope 0

If you have a question or concern regarding Font Finagler, feel free to instant message me at MarkDouma46 or to email me at mdouma46@mac.com.

If you could instant message me, that would be preferred, as it's much more conducive to troubleshooting. (If I don't answer, I'm most likely away from my computer. If you add me to your buddy list, you'll be able to see my status. If I'm not around, just leave an email address in your message and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible). If you've never used iChat or AIM before, then don't worry about it, email is fine.
