which 36" cooktop to buy?

I'm in the market for one of
these too, and narrowed the field down to the four drop-ins with he highest BTU
output: Dacor, F&P, DCS, and Windcrest. Windcrest lost early because of the
controls in the front. DCS and F&P were then binned out because of the
layout. I actually like the idea of the main burner in the front, but I
discovered that the control-on-the-side layout takes up a lot of space, which
means there is less room between burners. There is 12" between the burners left
to right on the Dacor and around 10" or so on the other two, so I can have two
12" pots/pans next to each other on the Dacor but not on the others. I like the
idea of the main burner in the middle as with the F&P and DCS, but another
downside to this layout is that if you use a griddle or grill over the end
burners then the middle burner becomes almost unusable because there is no room
(which probable really isn't a problem unless you need the high output BTU at
the same time you use the grill/griddle). I only wish the Dacor PGM365 came in
black enamel (which is supposed to happen in a year or so but I can't
wait).
