interesting cabinet option - order doors for ikea boxes

I have recently discovered that almost all cabinet manufacturers use two or three door companies to get their doors. Even the custom guys will buy the doors and make the boxes. The caveat is that these companies will not sell to end-users, only contractors. If you have a connection that can set up an account, perhaps you could buy the doors you want, and put them on nearly anybody's cabinet, including IKEA.

Here is a link to one of the biggest door makers . You can poke around at the 250+ styles, get a general idea of pricing, and see if you can get somebody to make your purchase for you.

That's what we did. We used IKEA cabinet boxes but put shaker style Mills Pride maple doors on them. Needed to drill a few holes to mount the drawer fronts, but otherwise an easy match. All the cabinet doors, for example, match up perfectly.

JanetO is right - doors make the cabinet. You can order custom doors thru Rockler or, in fact, the kitchen refacing service at Home Depot. There are also sites on the web that sell to consumers - check around.

Frankly, I wouldn't hesitate to use IKEA cabs again and then add a higher-quality door - think of what you can afford with the money you save on the cabs!
