Cutting Edge Topics in Psychiatry and Related Fields
A study group of the psychiatry residents at UCLA-NPI
Organizers: Marissa Caudill, MD PhD, Michael Davis, MD PhD
The Cutting Edge Journal Club is a forum for psychiatry residents to read about topics that may be controversial or timely, to discuss new developments in psychiatry, complementary and alternative therapies, philosophical issues, and other topics from "the bleeding edge of psychiatry", in the felicitous phrasing of Rogues & Renegades in Psychiatry, our predecessor study group.
The reading group will be meeting approximately every 3nd Friday of the month during regular resident lunches.
See also our companion journal club, Classic Readings in psychiatry.
Practical matters:
The reading group normally meets every third Friday of the month during regular resident lunches. Readings are normally distributed beforehand, along with an email briefly outlining the main concepts and their theoretical and historical context.
Please note: future readings are subject to change. This syllabus is a work in progress and evolves in response to the interests of the residents.

Faculty discussant: Dr. Joseph Pierre
Dr. Pierre will discuss the trial, outcomes and clinical relevance. This is the largest and most current study on antipsychotics to date and is regularly cited in clinical experience and other papers. We ask that you read about the study in preparation for this lunch. Please see below for details regarding the articles. If you find yourself only able to read one, this is the recommended link:
