NEW YORK POST REVIEW

Lou Lemenick of the NY Post reviews Cape of Good Hope:

"Cape of Good Hope presents a vibrant picture of the nation's contemporary society."

CAPE OF GOOD HOPERunning time: 107 minutes. In English and Afrikaans with English subtitles. Rated PG-13 (violence, sexual situations, profanity).
MARK Bamford's "Cape of Good Hope" is a charming if overlong romantic comedy from South Africa revolving around the emotionally troubled head of an animal rescue mission (Debbie Brown), a good-hearted widowed veterinarian (Morn Visser) and various colorful local characters.
Interlocking stories involve the heroine's assistant at the shelter (Quanita Adams) trying very hard to become pregnant by her husband (David Isaacs); a young dog owner (Kamo Masilo) whose mother's studies are threatened by her demanding Afrikaner employers; and the mother's suitor (the excellent Eriq Ebouney), a dignified astronomer from the Congo who also works at the shelter.
Most South African films that reach the United States deal with apartheid, but "Cape of Good Hope" presents a vibrant picture of the nation's contemporary society.
