There are many union leadership workshps and programs sponsored by unions and/or academic institutions. The programs featured in this section of the site go well beyond the development of the traditional skills required to represent workers through the collective bargaining process, or through the administration of the union collective agreement. These programs aim to develop high-level strategic skills required to meet the variety of challenges facing the labour movement.
Over the next few months I will be adding information on these and other programs, so please check back frequently for updates. The report on the Harvard Trade Union Program takes the form of a participant's blog reporting on my personal observations while taking part in the class of 2007.
Programs reviewed in this section of the site:
Canadian Union of Postal Workers - four-week residential program
Harvard Trade Union Program - six-week residential and academic program (a participant's blog)
Le Collège FTQ-Fonds - four-week residential program (Quebec Federation of Labour)
Training for Change - a non-profit training organization that offers leadership training to groups and individuals using a "direct education" approach
