Program objectives
To develop capacity to influence the social, economic and political changes under-way in Quebec.
Program design
The program is framed to develop knowledge (savoir), know-how (savoir-faire) and personal/community growth (savoir-être). Learning grows from the experience of the participants. The program is organized around a diverse range of learning activities including panels, role-plays, analysis of case studies. Each participant undertakes a significant research project.
Program history
The first session of the Collège started in January 2000. It was created with the participation of academics and popular educators. Since then, 15 groups, each made up of 15 or so local leaders and staff, have taken part.
"Here
at the Collège you will be at the leading edge of
your knowledge and your capabilities, in order to
build the labour movement of the future. You will
take a break from the daily grind of union activism
to reflect on the needs of our members, of our
movement, of our communities…We are giving you a
beautiful gift: treat it well. Use it to benefit
the workers." (Welcome from René Roy to the first
group of participants).
