John Kerry

The 100 day anniversary of John Kerry promising to release all his military records has just passed. Of course he hasn't signed the necessary Form 180.

Why is this important now that the election is over? Because he's still running. His website still has the feel of a political campaign, (criticizing Bush on issues like the Bolton nomination and his attempts to put "extremist judges" on the bench), organizing "grassroots" campaigns for his causes (translate; obtaining money and e-mail addresses, both of which are important in today's campaigns). He's also touring the country and taking out newspaper ads for his website. It must really irk him to see Hillary constantly mentioned as the Democratic frontrunner for 2008, after he came "so close" to winning it all. If he has any hope of winning the nomination, he ought to release his military records now. That'll allow a little time for the dust (and probable damage) to settle. Ignoring his pledge to release them will look even more suspicious in a couple years...

Speaking of elections, I'm currently reading "The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy" by Byron York. I recommend it. It's simply stunning the amount of money that went into Democratic 527's in response to new campaign finance reform laws. That part is legal. But the blatant, illegal coordination between these groups and the Democrats/Kerry campaign was scary. And now, this is a new and effective method of cheating for the Dems in the foreseeable future; something that will be painful to watch in upcoming elections unless something is done. The book also dispels the myth that the GOP is the party of wealthy donors. Some 92% of contributions over $1 million came from Democratic supporters. The book would be even more disturbing if I didn't know, at least this time, that there was a favorable outcome.
